Content Design & Web Strategy for the Maryland Department of Information Technology, Office of Enterprise Data

I designed the copy for Office of Enterprise Data. I facilitated a redesign of Data.Maryland.Gov.

Overview

As part of Maryland’s Department of Information Technology, the Office of Enterprise Data (OED) is responsible for strengthening how the state manages, shares, and uses data across agencies.

To improve how residents, agencies, and partners understand Maryland’s data ecosystem, I led the content design and information architecture for the Office of Enterprise Data’s public-facing webpage.

This page now serves as a central gateway explaining the office’s mission, its role in Maryland’s data strategy, and how users can access the state’s data resources.

In March 2026, the domain data.maryland.gov was redirected to this page, making it the primary entry point for users seeking information about Maryland’s data programs.

The Challenge

Maryland’s data programs including open data, governance, and literacy initiatives were difficult to understand from the public website. The goal was to create a clear, centralized page that explains the role of the Office of Enterprise Data while directing users to key data resources.

The Approach

I developed a content structure that organizes the office’s work into four focus areas:

  • Data Operations

  • Data Management

  • Data Practices

  • Data Literacy

The page was designed to explain Maryland’s enterprise data strategy while helping visitors quickly navigate to data tools and resources.

My Role

  • Content strategy

  • Information architecture

  • Plain-language web writing

  • Structuring content to support the data.maryland.gov redirect

Outcome

The Office of Enterprise Data page now serves as the public entry point to Maryland’s data ecosystem, helping users understand the state’s data strategy and access public data resources.
